Commissioner Jonathan Young, representing the Camden County Department of Public Safety, has announced a Code Blue Advisory for the region from Tuesday, January 21 to Friday, January 24. This advisory comes in response to anticipated dangerously low temperatures over an extended period.

Young emphasized the importance of residents staying indoors and ensuring that vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and those with disabilities, have adequate heating. He also urged pet owners to keep their animals safe during this cold spell.

“When the thermometer dips below 32 degrees, keep your pet indoors as much as possible," advised Young. He provided several tips for pet safety during extreme cold weather conditions. These include providing warm shelters for outdoor pets and being vigilant about signs of distress like shivering.

The Camden County Office of Emergency Management expects municipalities with homeless or transient populations to activate their Code Blue response plans. This includes identifying locations within each community where individuals can seek shelter from severe weather.

Young also encouraged residents to check on neighbors who may be elderly or disabled to ensure they are prepared for the cold temperatures. "If you know of anyone who is elderly or disabled, please check on them to make sure they’re prepared to stay safe in these dangerous temperatures,” he said.

For those seeking shelter in warming centers, it is advised to contact local municipalities directly. In case of power outages, residents should report issues directly to utility providers such as PSE&G, Atlantic City Electric, and South Jersey Gas using the provided contact information.
