Commissioner Jonathan Young has announced that Camden County will be under a Code Blue Advisory from Wednesday evening through Monday morning. The advisory aims to protect residents during the anticipated cold spell, with temperatures expected to drop significantly.

"The temperature is set to drop dangerously low, so it is critical that everyone is inside and away from the elements," stated Young. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring elderly residents and those with disabilities have working heat and advised bringing pets indoors.

The advisory will be in effect during specific times: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 to 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16; continuing each night until Monday morning, Jan. 20; and all day on Monday.

Municipalities are required to activate their Code Blue response plans for homeless or transient populations when such advisories are declared by the Camden County Office of Emergency Management.

"If you know of anyone who is elderly or disabled, please check on them to make sure they’re prepared to stay safe in these dangerous temperatures," urged Young.

Young also provided tips for pet safety during cold weather, advising owners to keep pets indoors when temperatures fall below freezing. He highlighted signs of distress in animals due to cold and recommended precautions such as providing warm shelters and protecting paws from ice-melting chemicals.

The Camden County Health Department and Office of Emergency Management have coordinated with municipalities to ensure resources are available for severe weather situations as part of their Code Blue plans. Residents seeking shelter should contact local authorities.

In case of power outages, individuals should report directly to their utility providers:

- PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734)

- Atlantic City Electric at 1-800-833-7476

- South Jersey Gas at 1-800-582-7060
