The Camden County Department of Public Works is preparing for an impending winter weather event expected to begin on Sunday. The county's road network, covering 1,200 lane miles, is the focus of these preparations.

"There is expected to be a mix of sleet and rain throughout the day tomorrow with the snow coming through closer to the evening," said Commissioner Al Dyer, who serves as liaison to the DPW. "Our crews have been working to keep our roadways clear and passable. As always, our salt trucks loaded up, the plows are ready to go, and our tree removal equipment is in working order to clear any debris that may result from this weather."

The forecast indicates a wintry mix will commence between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by snowfall until approximately 7 p.m. Snow accumulation could reach one to three inches. As temperatures drop overnight, wet areas covered with snow are likely to freeze.

"We always urge residents to stay off the roads unless they must go somewhere," Dyer advised. "And please remember, as our crews head out to treat the roads always leave at least six car lengths behind our vehicles while they work and move any cars off the street and into a driveway. Please also remember that it is illegal in New Jersey to plow or shovel snow from private property into roadways."

The public works complex in Lindenwold has over 100 pieces of equipment ready for deployment across Camden County's 12 winter maintenance districts. Crews will be dispatched only where necessary according to the county’s response plan.

Residents experiencing power outages should contact their utility provider directly:

- PSE&G: 1-800-436-PSEG (7734)

- Atlantic City Electric: 1-800-833-7476

- South Jersey Gas: 1-800-582-7060

For emergencies, residents are reminded to use 911 services only. Non-emergency issues on county roads can be reported via CCDPW's 24-hour hotline at (856) 566-2980.
