Senator Owen Henry recently convened a roundtable discussion with officials from the Jackson School District to address the challenges posed by Governor Murphy's education funding cuts. This meeting marks Senator Henry's third roundtable focused on education and his second engagement with Jackson officials.
During the discussion, Senator Henry emphasized the need for legislative action to protect educational quality in New Jersey. "As more schools around New Jersey lay off teachers and cut vital programs, it’s clear that we need to do more to protect the quality of our education system," he stated. He expressed his commitment to understanding school districts' financial needs and working towards equitable solutions. "Today’s meeting with Jackson leaders was insightful and productive, and I look forward to taking their concerns to Trenton so we can do right by our children and ensure that they have a thorough and efficient education."
In response to budget reductions, the Jackson Township School District has introduced a subscription-based plan requiring parents to pay for after-school bus transportation for extracurricular activities or sports.
Senator Henry reiterated his dedication to advocating for students and educators amidst these challenges. "We have to keep fighting for our students and our educators. As we move into a post-S2 era, Republicans and Democrats must work together and listen to the needs of school district administrators," he concluded.
