Senator Carmen Amato has expressed approval for the recent enactment of a bipartisan law aimed at protecting senior citizens by enhancing penalties for residential burglaries. "As a sponsor of this legislation, I’m glad to see that the Governor worked with Republicans to prioritize the safety of our most vulnerable residents," stated Sen. Amato. She highlighted the significance of this measure for South Jersey's substantial senior population.
The bill, known as S-3006, was signed into law on Friday by Governor Murphy in collaboration with Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco. "With the Governor’s signature, New Jersey is sending a strong and clear message that individuals who burglarize homes or engage in other associated criminal activities will face severe consequences," remarked Sen. Bucco. He emphasized that law enforcement and prosecutors now have improved tools to address the increasing number of residential burglaries across New Jersey.
