Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. has issued a statement regarding violent rhetoric used by a political candidate at a recent event. The statement highlights the use of language that incites violence against former Representative Liz Cheney.

“On Thursday evening, a political candidate proudly incited violent rhetoric against former Rep. Liz Cheney," Cappelli stated. He detailed how the candidate referred to Cheney as a “war hawk” and suggested placing her in a dangerous situation involving firearms: “let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? And let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”

Cappelli condemned this language as an "egregious" call for violence and emphasized its unacceptability, especially from someone seeking public office. He noted that this rhetoric is particularly concerning given the ongoing issue of gun violence in the nation, where over 100 Americans die daily due to firearms.

Camden County is actively working to combat gun violence through its Office of Gun Violence Prevention. This involves collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to reduce illegal firearms and promote programs aimed at curbing gun violence.

Cappelli stressed the importance of condemning such behavior by political candidates to foster progress towards making the country safer and healthier.
