Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco has reiterated his call for New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to halt the electric vehicle (EV) mandates. This comes after Connecticut's Democratic Governor Ned Lamont decided not to pursue a similar EV sales mandate proposed for 2035.
"As we have said from the beginning of the Governor’s disastrous energy plan, these policies are moving too far, too fast, and will cost working families too much to implement successfully," stated Sen. Bucco. He emphasized that New Jersey should reconsider its approach in light of Connecticut's decision. "Now, with Connecticut’s Democratic Governor announcing that he won't pursue their electric vehicle sales mandate, New Jersey must follow suit and end the ridiculous push to limit the choice of consumers or risk further increases in our already overwhelming cost of living."
In August 2023, Sen. Bucco urged Governor Murphy to stop the mandate due to concerns over financial burdens on taxpayers and energy utilities related to public and private charging infrastructure.
