Town hall meeting honors local veteran Harry Marks

The Board of Commissioners convened in Bellmawr for Monday night's town hall meeting for Camden County.

“As public servants, these town halls are the bridge that allows us to hear our constituents and learn how we can better serve the people of Camden County,” said Commissioner Melinda Kane. “Citizen engagement and dialogue at events like these are one of the key components to nurturing and supporting our democracy while assisting us enhance our community.”

During the town hall, Army Veteran Harry Marks was honored.

Harry Marks joined the Army in 1969 at age 17, using his mother’s signature to bypass the minimum age of 18 for his service. Mark served as a gas/diesel mechanic in the Army cavalry and was stationed in Korea, Germany, and the United States. For his time in the service, Mark has been honored with the Good Conduct Medal, which he received twice, the National Defense Service medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, an Army Service Ribbon, among other accolades.

Since his time in the service, Harry Marks has taken an active role in the Bellmawr VFW and currently serves as Commander of the District 7 unit, as well as the Crescent Park Post 9563. He has played an integral role in District 7 supporting the VFW Children’s home and VFW Vineland Veteran’s Hospital.

Marks currently resides in Bellmawr with his wife Barbara.
