Senator Owen Henry has introduced a new bill in the Senate aimed at providing emergency supplemental aid to school districts affected by recent funding cuts. The legislation, known as S-3904/A-5041, proposes an appropriation of $106.5 million to the Department of Education for this purpose.

In a statement, Senator Henry highlighted the adverse effects of Governor Murphy's education funding cuts on school districts. "Our school districts have made it clear that Governor Murphy’s education funding cuts are having a devastating impact on our children’s education," he said. He emphasized that these budget reductions have compelled schools to make tough financial decisions, impacting essential programs and services. "Put simply, our students and educators deserve better," he added. The proposed bill aims to provide immediate relief and ensure quality education for all children.

The introduction of this bill comes after Senator Henry conducted his second roundtable discussion with officials from Jackson's school district. Earlier in the year, similar discussions were held with representatives from Jackson and Old Bridge.
