Two New Jersey lawmakers are taking action in response to the recent surge in violence and anarchy along the southern border and in sanctuary states. Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia and Assemblyman Michael Inganamort have introduced a series of bills aimed at addressing the crisis and protecting New Jersey citizens.
Fantasia expressed her outrage over the tragic death of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant. She emphasized the need for action, stating, “she is dead because America failed to protect her.”
Inganamort highlighted the urgent need to address the open border and sanctuary city policies that are contributing to the chaos. He criticized the Biden Administration for its lack of interest in border security, calling it irresponsible and putting American families at risk.
The lawmakers' proposed six-bill package includes measures to prevent municipalities from becoming sanctuary cities, prohibit the use of state funds to aid illegal immigrants facing detention or deportation, and require the remand of illegal immigrants to federal immigration officials instead of releasing them from correctional facilities.
Additionally, Fantasia and Inganamort are advocating for a national E-Verify system to ensure that employers hire properly documented employees. They have introduced legislation to mandate E-Verify in New Jersey, in line with the Star-Ledger's endorsement of such a system.
In urging President Biden and Congress to enact immigration policies that better serve national interests, Fantasia emphasized the importance of upholding laws to prevent such tragedies. She stated, “If they were upholding the laws they swore to, we wouldn’t need to introduce such measures, and a beautiful, promising young nursing student would still be alive today.”
