WASHINGTON – The nation’s Governors will meet in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for the National Governors Association (NGA) Annual Meeting July 12-14. Governors will join federal officials and leaders from business, academia and philanthropy for bipartisan conversations around top issues in states, commonwealths and territories.
NGA Chair New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy will lead an opening plenary session on Thursday, July 13, on his NGA Chair’s Initiative: Strengthening Youth Mental Health. At the meeting, Governor Murphy will unveil Strengthening Mental Health: A Governor’s Playbook, a resource that Governors, states and other policymakers can use to take actionable steps to address youth mental health challenges. The playbook has been developed over the past year through a series of roundtable events held across the country with mental health leaders.
On Thursday, July 13, NGA Public Health and Disaster Response Task Force Co-Chairs Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Vermont Governor Phil Scott will lead a policy discussion on preparing for and responding to concurrent crises with Juliette Kayyman, Senior Belfer Lecturer in International Security at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
On Thursday, July 13, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will meet with Governors and First Spouses to highlight the importance of investing in workforce training programs that are preparing high school and community college students for good-paying jobs.
On Thursday, July 13, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt will lead a policy roundtable on Governors’ actions to accelerate infrastructure projects with industry leaders from Exelon, Verizon and National Grid New England.
On Friday, July 14, incoming NGA Chair Utah Governor Spencer Cox will lead a final plenary session to introduce his 2023-2024 NGA Chair’s Initiative. Following the session, Governor Murphy, Governor Cox and incoming NGA Vice Chair Colorado Governor Jared Polis will be available for questions from credentialed members of the media.
