Senator Doug Steinhardt has formally requested a Senate hearing regarding the award of the TransCore E-ZPass contract. Steinhardt, a Republican representing the 23rd District, addressed a letter to Senate President Scutari raising concerns over the affiliations of TransCore and its access to sensitive data and infrastructure. The senator is wary of potential threats this might present to the state of New Jersey.
In the letter, Steinhardt highlighted concerns arising from "relations with Communist China" deteriorating and the increase in national security threats connected to artificial intelligence and data breaches. He emphasized that these issues contribute to the worries faced by Americans, including New Jersey residents, regarding the safety of their personal information. The letter pointed out the risks posed by hackers and state-sponsored actors "working on behalf of foreign governments and agencies hostile to American interests."
Steinhardt called for Senate leadership to ensure the protection of both residents and businesses in New Jersey.
