U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), representing the 2nd district, has voted against the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Van Drew encouraged unity as the way forward, not impeachment, which he says did not bring favorable results previously.

"We've been here before. We've done this before. This has failed before. We fractured our nation using the same process before. Congress must be the glue that starts unifying everyone. By the time this process would conclude, the man they want out of office will no longer be the President," said Van Drew as reported by Fox News.

"If we want unity, this is not the way. America was and is the leading light in the world...Nearly half of the country supports our current president. This takes their voices away."

He went on to encourage people to link hands and begin to heal. "Let's stop this impeachment," he said.

Van Drew spoke during the House Debate on the second impeachment of President Trump. The House impeached Trump for inciting the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Questions have arisen whether or not Trump would be allowed to run again in 2024 if he were removed from office.

WUSA reports that if Trump was removed by the 25th Amendment, he could run again because that does not disqualify him from running again.

However, if he is removed via an impeachment conviction, the answer gets a little more murky. Congress has the authority to disqualify someone from running for future office.

In the past, there have been times that Congress has decided not to disqualify someone from future office, so Trump’s ability to run in 2024 depends on if Congress decides to disqualify him or not.
