On Thursday, the Board of Commissioners and the Saint Joseph’s Carpenter Society (SJCS) introduced a new workforce development center and community space in East Camden. This location was previously a warehouse and now serves multiple purposes. It is intended for workforce development and other community and educational events run by SJCS and its partners.

“This workforce development center will serve as a vital community resource for generations to come,” Commissioner Jen Fleisher stated. She added that the facility will support workforce development and address other local needs, including a meeting space, classrooms for practical courses, and small offices for local contractors. She emphasized the role of such facilities in Camden's growth, expressing optimism about the center's positive impact.

The facility will offer workforce development training in property maintenance, with plans to branch into other trades. Training for homeowners to perform basic repairs is also available at the center.

The project received backing from several organizations: the NJ Department of Community Affairs Community Capital and Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credits program, Holman Enterprises, Camden County Pandemic Recovery Relief Funds, Haines Family Foundation, and the NJ Office of Faith Based Initiatives.
