Joe Concha, a contributor at Fox News, has expressed criticism of New Jersey's proposed $250 annual electric vehicle (EV) fee, suggesting it contradicts the state's push for EV mandates. Concha made this statement on the social media platform X on March 4.

"NJ wants to mandate EVs in the state, but now also will charge any owner a $250 annual fee for doing so based on a California standard," said Concha, TV Columnist. "Can't make this stuff up…"

Concha's remarks were in response to a proposed policy in New Jersey that would impose an annual fee on EV owners. This initiative is part of the state's broader effort to align with California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) program, which sets targets for zero-emission vehicle sales. According to the New Jersey government, Concha highlighted perceived contradictions within the policy.

As reported by RTO Insider, the ACCII regulation outlines a plan to increase zero-emission vehicle sales, starting with a 35% requirement in 2026, escalating to 68% by 2030, and reaching full compliance by 2035. These targets are designed to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles in favor of electric alternatives over the next decade.

A Rutgers-Eagleton Poll released in February 2024 revealed that half of New Jersey residents oppose the state's plan to eliminate new gas-powered vehicle sales by 2035. Additionally, nearly half of those surveyed expressed concerns about potential negative impacts on their personal finances due to this rule.

Concha is known as a media and politics contributor for Fox News and frequently appears across its television and digital platforms. His official Fox News biography states that he covers media trends and political narratives, often providing commentary on journalism and policy intersections. Before joining Fox News, Concha wrote for The Hill and contributed to outlets such as CNN and The Blaze.
