On Friday, March 14th, the Board of Commissioners and Congressman Donald Norcross met with the Emanet family in Haddon Township. The meeting came after Celal and Emine Emanet, owners of Jersey Kebab restaurant, faced detention by ICE due to their pending immigration status.
Celal Emanet was released with an ankle monitor shortly after his arrest, while Emine Emanet remained in custody until she was released on a $7,500 bond on Wednesday, March 12.
Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. commented on the situation: “This arrest was a devastating example of just how broken the immigration system is in this country.” He added that they "continue to stand with the Emanet family and are eager to assist them in any way that we can as they navigate this difficult time.”
