As Norovirus cases increase nationwide, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services is advising residents to take measures to prevent the virus's spread. This highly contagious virus spreads rapidly, especially in shared environments such as workplaces.

The symptoms of Norovirus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. These symptoms typically appear 12 to 48 hours after exposure. It is important to note that individuals can continue to spread the virus for two weeks or more after recovery.

Norovirus transmission occurs through direct contact with an infected person, consuming contaminated food or drinks, or touching contaminated surfaces and then placing unwashed hands in the mouth.

"According to the CDC, Norovirus outbreaks are at a 10-year high, so it is imperative that residents remain vigilant and take precaution to prevent getting sick," stated Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, who serves as a liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services.

To curb the spread of Norovirus, residents are advised to:

- Wash hands thoroughly and frequently.

- Cook shellfish properly and wash fruits and vegetables.

- Clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces.

- Use hot water for laundry.

- Stay home for two days (48 hours) after symptoms cease.

For further inquiries, residents can contact the Camden County Health Department at (856) 549-0530.
