Senator Owen Henry, representing the 12th legislative district, has formally addressed Governor Murphy through a letter, urging the reinstatement of formula-based financial aid for municipalities in the upcoming fiscal year 2026 budget. This request follows the removal of such aid from the current fiscal year 2025 budget.

In his communication to Governor Murphy, Senator Henry highlighted the financial impact on local communities due to this cut. "In my own legislative district, every municipality loses aid from the $150 million cut, and they can be quite substantial," he stated. He provided specific examples: Old Bridge Township faces a reduction of $653,133 while Jackson Township will lose $349,722. According to Henry, these reductions will soon affect municipal budgets currently being adopted by local governing bodies and may result in increased property taxes or reduced services if not addressed.

The full content of Senator Henry's letter is available for public viewing online.
