This week, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services will continue its 2024 Seasonal Influenza Immunization Program by offering free flu vaccines. The vaccinations will be available on Thursday, October 31, at the Magnolia Community Center located at 425 Brook Avenue, Magnolia, NJ, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, who is the liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, emphasized the importance of flu shots in preventing serious illness. "Getting your flu shot is a critical tool to preventing serious illness from the flu," she stated. She encouraged everyone, particularly those who are elderly or immunocompromised, to take advantage of these clinics for their health protection.
The program also highlights pregnant women and chronically ill individuals as high-priority groups for vaccination. Additionally, flu shots are recommended for those with weakened immune systems or cardiovascular issues, chronic metabolic diseases, renal dysfunctions, or blood disorders. Children aged nine and older must be accompanied by an adult to receive a vaccine; however, children under nine are not included in this specific program.
For children under age nine who require two shots a month apart, it is advised they see a pediatrician. Uninsured children can seek assistance from CamCare by calling (856) 541-9811 or contact the Bellmawr Health Center at (856) 931-2700.
