Senator Kristin Corrado's resolution to establish March 16 as "Paws Healing Heroes Day" in New Jersey has successfully passed the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. The initiative is intended to acknowledge the essential support service dogs provide to veterans, particularly those facing challenges such as traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder.

"Service dogs play a special role in providing support and improving the quality of life for our veterans," stated Senator Corrado. "By designating 'Paws Healing Heroes Day,' we will not only honor their contributions to those who fight for our freedoms, but we can spotlight the need for more resources for training and placement of service dogs."

The resolution aims to highlight organizations responsible for training and placing these service animals, which frequently depend on donations. Training and placing a service dog can cost between $3,000 and $5,000—expenses typically not covered by a veteran’s insurance or benefits.
