The Senate Commerce Committee has moved forward with a bipartisan bill aimed at reducing the backlog of professional license applications at the Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The legislation, sponsored by Senator Robert Singer, seeks to address ongoing delays that have impacted professionals' ability to enter or progress in their careers.

"Ongoing service failures at the DCA have directly contributed to the immense backlog of licensing applications and renewals that are delaying professionals from entering or advancing in their careers," said Sen. Singer. "By investing in additional staff, the DCA will be better equipped to meet the needs of our regulated professions while providing the necessary support our workforce deserves."

The proposed bill, S-3051, plans to allocate funds for hiring additional staff at the DCA over fiscal years 2026, 2027, and 2028. This measure aims not only to tackle the current backlog but also to ensure sustained quality of service in future operations. Additionally, it mandates an annual report from the DCA on how these funds are used and their impact on processing efficiency.
