Camden County Commissioner Board has approved over a million dollars in grants for recreational and historic enhancement projects across the county. A total of $720,885 was allocated for 29 recreational facility enhancement projects, while $418,309 was approved for 10 historic preservation projects.

Commissioner Jeff Nash, liaison to the county Division Environmental Affairs, emphasized the importance of investing in maintaining recreation facilities and historic sites, stating, “Communities thrive when there is ample access to quality recreation facilities, and keeping our region’s history alive is incredibly important. We are proud to be able to make both things possible through these grants and we are excited to see how these projects benefit our communities.”

The grants stem from the Camden County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund, established in 1998 through a referendum supported by the residents of Camden County. The fund aims to acquire, preserve, and maintain environmentally sensitive lands, open space, drinking water sources, historic sites, recreation areas, and farmland within the county.

Among the historic preservation grant recipients are projects such as the American Revolution Trail signage and mobile audio app, Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial, and Greenfield Hall, each receiving $50,000. On the recreational side, recipients include Audubon Family Park, Lost World Park, and Waterfront Park, all granted $25,000 for various improvements and installations.

Numerous other projects, ranging from playground installations to park improvements, have been selected to receive funding, reflecting the county's commitment to enhancing both recreational and historical assets within the community.
