Senator Owen Henry (R-12) recently sat down with school officials in Old Bridge to address their concerns regarding Governor Murphy’s proposed school funding cuts. Henry expressed his commitment to rectifying the situation, stating, “Governor Murphy’s proposed cuts are devastating our public schools across New Jersey and frankly it’s embarrassing that our school districts have been thrown under the bus. I am committed to fixing this formula and the first step is bringing everyone to the table, having the hard conversations, and figuring out a plan so ALL of our students and teachers have the tools they need for success.”
In response to the ongoing challenges faced by the district, a joint press release from Old Bridge Township Superintendent David Cittadino and Old Bridge Education Association President Andrew Lewis highlighted the impact of the funding cuts on their community. The statement read, “Our district has suffered for six years under the cuts of S2; we have closed a school, sold property, and reduced staff. Given the rising costs of transportation, healthcare, and operational supplies, we cannot continue to lose funding and provide the quality education our students deserve.”
A roundtable discussion involving Senator Owen Henry, Superintendent David Cittadino, and President Andrew Lewis was held to delve deeper into the effects of the S2 funding cuts on the Old Bridge Township Public Schools. The stakeholders engaged in a dialogue to address the pressing issues and explore potential solutions to mitigate the challenges faced by the district.
