Senator Michael Testa (R-1) has revealed his plans to introduce the “New Jersey Comes First” legislative package aimed at addressing immigration and sanctuary state policies in New Jersey. Testa expressed his concerns about the current state of affairs, stating, "Congress has failed to do its job when it comes to our country’s immigration crisis and Governor Murphy’s harmful sanctuary state policies have made it more difficult for our municipalities to provide the services our constituents rely on."

In a bid to prioritize the needs of New Jersey residents, Testa emphasized, “The far-left’s open border policies are draining our already strained resources. This package of bills will ensure New Jerseyans come first and prevent our schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and local communities from being overburdened.”

The proposed legislative package includes measures such as prohibiting municipal ordinances to create sanctuary cities, repealing the Attorney General's 2018 “Immigrant Trust Directive,” and a resolution urging Congress and the President to enact immigration policies that better serve the national interest.

The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by local communities in providing essential services while navigating immigration policies. For further inquiries or comments from Senator Testa, individuals are directed to contact Kyle Fischer, SRO Communications Director.
