The Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee approved a bill sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado and Senator Teresa Ruiz aimed at helping pregnant women receive postpartum care. Senator Corrado emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating, "Women face unique challenges during pregnancy and postpartum that can significantly impact their body and overall health." She highlighted the need for health care professionals to provide information about personalized postpartum care plans to empower mothers to prioritize their health and well-being during and after pregnancy.

Senator Ruiz, the Majority Leader, also underscored the significance of the bill, stating, "Ensuring women are explicitly prepared for the postpartum period is crucial to improving maternal health outcomes." She emphasized the need for pregnant women to be informed about postpartum care to reduce preventable pregnancy-related mortality and enhance overall women's healthcare.

Key components of the bill include requiring health care professionals to consult with pregnant women to develop comprehensive and personalized postpartum care plans. Additionally, hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, and birthing centers are instructed to provide women with information about postpartum care, potential health issues, and symptoms.

Senator Ruiz stressed the importance of providing resources to mothers during the postpartum period to address significant and confusing changes that can occur after giving birth. She expressed the need for women to have access to proper medical care to reduce maternal mortality rates from preventable complications.

The full text of the bill is available online for review. For further inquiries about the legislation, individuals can contact Chris Sivel, SRO Deputy Director of Communications, to speak with Sen. Corrado.
