Senator Robert Singer (R-30) has expressed strong condemnation following the release of a report by the Department of Justice regarding State-run veterans homes. Singer emphasized the need for immediate legislative action to address the troubling findings and ensure the well-being of veterans.

"As the only veteran in the Senate Republican caucus I have a moral duty to do whatever is legislatively necessary to protect those who bravely swore an oath and put on a uniform to protect this great nation," stated Senator Singer, highlighting his commitment to advocating for the rights of veterans.

The report revealed disturbing details about the living conditions and care provided to veterans in these homes, prompting Singer to label the situation as "outrageous." He remarked, "It is outrageous that veterans in these memorial homes were subject to inadequate living conditions and could not receive proper care."

Furthermore, Singer pointed out the role of legislative inaction in exacerbating the issues faced by veterans, specifically criticizing the lack of investigations by Democrats. He asserted, "Unfortunately, this is partially the result of legislative inaction on part of Democrats refusing to investigate these issues to protect these veterans."

Highlighting missed opportunities for intervention, Singer expressed regret that previous calls for investigations were not heeded. He lamented, "This Legislature could have done something to protect our veterans when Republicans called for investigations over the last three years."

In light of the DOJ report's revelations, Singer emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, "Now that the DOJ has revealed the truth, we have an obligation to hold those who are responsible for these horrendous conditions accountable."

Senator Singer's strong words underscore the urgent need for action to address the issues plaguing State-run veterans homes and ensure that the individuals who have served their country receive the care and support they deserve.
