The Senate Select Committee and Assembly Communications Committee convened on Friday to address the topic of energy affordability in New Jersey. Republican Senator Latham Tiver from District 08 delivered remarks about the energy costs and criticized current policies.

Senator Tiver expressed concerns about the Democratic leadership in Trenton, highlighting the decisions made under Governor Murphy's administration. According to Tiver, "The Democratic leadership in Trenton has gone along with Governor Murphy’s plan to decommission nuclear and coal and phase out natural gas by banning future sales of gas cars, stoves, heaters, you name it. Of course prices are going to skyrocket. It is basic supply and demand."

Tiver attributed increasing energy costs to Democratic policies, stating, "The Dem’s policies are creating more demand for electric while removing energy sources that create electricity." He also mentioned that certain green initiatives, especially offshore wind projects, have encountered delays due to what he termed "mismanagement."

Senator Tiver criticized these developments, saying, "The prices we’re seeing are a classic tale of bad government."

The joint committee meeting aimed to examine the factors contributing to energy prices and discuss possible avenues to address the affordability issues in the state's energy sector.
