The Senate Transportation Committee has given its approval to a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco. The legislation aims to allow Marines to acquire special commemorative license plates.
"Our combat veterans have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation, and it is only right that we ensure they receive the recognition they deserve," stated Sen. Bucco. He noted that currently, Marines are unintentionally excluded from obtaining special license plates that honor their combat service. "This bill would correct this oversight by extending eligibility to those who bravely served our nation and were awarded the Combat Action Ribbon."
Under current law, only recipients of the Combat Infantryman Badge can receive these license plates, a badge not awarded to Marines. Senator Bucco's bill, S-2911, seeks to amend existing legislation so that Marines who have been awarded the Combat Action Ribbon can also obtain commemorative license plates acknowledging their combat service.
