The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has issued a Code Blue Advisory for the region from February 19 to February 24. Commissioner Jonathan Young, who is associated with the Camden County Department of Public Safety, emphasized the importance of staying indoors during this period due to expected dangerously low temperatures.
Young stated, “The temperature is set to drop dangerously low for an extended period, so it is critical that everyone is inside and away from the elements.” He also highlighted the need for elderly residents and those with disabilities to ensure their heating systems are functioning properly and advised pet owners to bring their animals indoors.
Municipalities with homeless populations are required to activate their Code Blue response plans. Young urged community members to check on elderly or disabled individuals they know, ensuring they are prepared for the cold weather.
Pet safety tips were also provided by Commissioner Young. He recommended keeping pets indoors when temperatures fall below 32 degrees and offered guidance on creating suitable outdoor shelters if necessary. Additionally, he warned against leaving pets in unheated vehicles and advised providing clean drinking water while avoiding harmful chemicals like antifreeze.
Each municipality within Camden County has coordinated with local authorities to offer resources during this severe weather event. Residents seeking shelter should contact their local municipalities directly. In case of power outages, utility providers such as PSE&G, Atlantic City Electric, and South Jersey Gas can be contacted through their respective hotlines or websites.
