Commissioner Jonathan Young, a representative of the Camden County Department of Public Safety, has announced that a Code Blue Advisory will be in effect from Friday, February 7 to Wednesday, February 12. The advisory will be active daily between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

“The temperature is set to drop dangerously low for an extended period, so it is critical that everyone is inside and away from the elements,” Young stated. He emphasized the importance of ensuring elderly residents and individuals with disabilities have adequate heating and urged pet owners to bring their animals indoors.

The advisory requires municipalities with homeless or transient populations to activate their Code Blue response plans. Young advised residents to check on elderly or disabled neighbors during this period.

Young also provided several tips for pet safety during cold weather: keep pets indoors when temperatures fall below 32 degrees; provide warm shelters if they must stay outside; watch for signs of distress such as shivering; ensure access to clean water; and protect pets' paws from harmful chemicals by using petroleum jelly or boots.

Residents seeking shelter are encouraged to contact local municipalities. In case of power outages, they should report them directly to utility providers: PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), Atlantic City Electric at 1-800-833-7476, or South Jersey Gas at 1-800-582-7060.

The Camden County Health Department and Office of Emergency Management have coordinated with municipalities to ensure resources are available during this severe weather event. Each municipality has designated locations for community members needing shelter.
