NFIB State Director Eileen Kean appeared before the New Jersey Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee on January 27 to express opposition to new signage legislation. The proposed bill, A-4636, mandates that businesses selling gift cards must display a notice warning consumers about gift card fraud.

Kean argued that not all locations have suitable places for such notices due to existing requirements. She also criticized the civil penalty fee of $1,000 as excessively high, stating it would impose a significant burden on small businesses.

The bill is currently on its second reading in the state Assembly.
