The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee has passed a bill introduced by Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco. The legislation mandates that Medicaid cover motorized wheelchairs for nursing facility residents if prescribed by their licensed physician or primary healthcare provider.

"Every individual deserves to live with independence and dignity," said Sen. Bucco. "This bill would be a vital step toward not only ensuring that those in nursing facilities can maintain their mobility and quality of life, but it also goes a long way in easing the financial burden on both residents and their families during our ongoing affordability crisis."

For more details, the full text of the bill, S-3438, is available for review.
