Senator Robert Singer's bill, S-2840, has successfully passed the Senate Environment and Energy Committee. The legislation proposes that the Department of Environmental Protection ease certain conservation restrictions on properties required for the physical expansion of special needs schools. This includes institutions like the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence in Lakewood. To balance this change, a separate property will have a conservation easement imposed.

"This legislation will help create the necessary space for schools dedicated to supporting children with special needs, while still upholding our environmental responsibilities," stated Senator Singer. "This is a thoughtful approach that aims to provide our children with the resources they need and preserving our natural resources."
