On Wednesday, the Board of Commissioners, along with local elected officials and members of the skateboarding community, inaugurated a new skate park in the Cherry Hill Township section of Cooper River Park.
“This skatepark has been long awaited and we are so thrilled to finally open it to the public,” said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, who serves as liaison to the Camden County Parks Department. “The skateboarding community here in Camden County has been a huge help in bringing this project to fruition and we cannot wait to welcome them to use the Camden County Park System’s newest amenity.”
The construction of the park amounted to approximately $900,000, financed by both county and state funds. In July 2023, Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald contributed $87,000 from state funding towards its development.
Cooper River Park was designed over a century ago by Charles Levitt and covers 346 acres across Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, Collingswood, and Haddon Township. The park offers various amenities including playgrounds, pavilions, a softball field, a cross-country course, two bike trails, Jack Curtis Stadium, picnic areas, and more. Recognized as a Great Place in New Jersey by the American Planning Association-New Jersey Chapter (APA-NJ), it also hosts the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.
