Today, the Senate Transportation Committee approved a bipartisan bill led by Senator Parker Space (R-24) to rename the Blue Star Memorial Highway as the Blue and Gold Star Memorial Highway system.

The highways serve as tributes to the United States armed forces. The Blue Star honors those in active service, while the addition of Gold Star recognizes families of those who died while serving.

“It’s important to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation and the enduring strength of Blue and Gold Star families,” said Sen. Space. “This designation commemorates the bravery of our service members and is a fitting tribute to those families who have shared in the sacrifice.”

The legislation aligns with similar efforts in other states. It is supported by the Garden Club of New Jersey and its local chapters, which sponsor and maintain these memorial markers throughout New Jersey.
