Senator Doug Steinhardt has reached out to Governor Murphy, urging him to approve legislation aimed at providing aid to New Jersey residents severely affected by Hurricane Ida. In his letter, Steinhardt highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by families in the aftermath of the storm and emphasized the necessity of the governor's approval for the relief measures.

The proposed bills, S1443 and A2294, which were passed unanimously by both the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly on June 28, 2024, aim to establish mortgage payment relief and foreclosure protection for homeowners impacted by the hurricane. Senator Steinhardt is a co-sponsor of the Senate version.

Steinhardt expressed gratitude for Governor Murphy's leadership during the initial response to Hurricane Ida but noted that many families remain displaced or are still dealing with significant challenges. "Countless families are still displaced from their homes or trying to recover from the devastating effects of the storm," he stated.

He urged Governor Murphy to demonstrate compassion in his leadership by signing the bills before the Assembly reconvenes on September 12, 2024. "Your signature is all that stands between those families and hope," Steinhardt wrote.

The senator also sent a copy of his letter to Richard M. Onderko, Mayor of Manville, NJ.
