The Board of Commissioners in Camden County is currently accepting nominations for the Camden County Freedom Medal. This award, established by the Board of Commissioners in 2001, honors civic leaders who embody the principles and actions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Over its 23-year history, more than 1,200 residents have received this accolade.
“Each year, we celebrate remarkable Camden County residents who are working hard to better their communities while displaying the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young. “We encourage everyone to nominate someone you know who embodies the spirit and actions Martin Luther King, Jr. for this prestigious award.”
To be eligible for nomination, individuals must be residents of Camden County and have made significant contributions to their community through volunteer work that has led to tangible improvements benefiting local people. Professional achievements are excluded from consideration.
Nominators must submit a 300-word essay detailing the nominee’s accomplishments and their impact on the community over time. The essay should include all relevant details and avoid references to the nominee’s professional career. Past recipients are not eligible for renomination.
The review committee will select the 2025 award recipients who will be honored at a reception ceremony. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by November 8, 2024. Successful nominees will be announced on www.camdencounty.com and notified by mail.
