Bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Vince Polistina (R-2) was signed into law today, allowing members of the State Police and Firemen Retirement System (PFRS) to purchase pension credit as class two special law enforcement officers in New Jersey.

"I'm pleased this bill has been signed into law," said Sen. Polistina. "Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers play an essential role in maintaining the safety of our communities. Providing them with access to PFRS credits is not just the right thing to do, it's our obligation to honor their service and commitment to our State. This is a small but important way to recognize the brave men and women in blue."

Senator Polistina's bill, S-2070/A-2884, will enable PFRS members to purchase credit for up to 10 years of service as class two special law enforcement officers with a public employer in New Jersey prior to becoming a PFRS member. Credit may be purchased for all or a portion of service, including time taken to complete the required basic police training.

To speak with Sen. Polistina, please contact Chris Sivel, SRO Deputy Communications Director at [email protected].
