Beginning on Monday, July 15, Camden County will commence construction work at the intersection of Gibbsboro and Blackwood-Clementon roads in Clementon. This intersection is a major thoroughfare in the county that sees heavy daily traffic. The project includes milling, paving, and improving stormwater infrastructure.
On July 15 and 16, work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lane shifts in place at the intersection. On July 17 and 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., there will be a full road closure of Gibbsboro Road between White Horse and Blackwood-Clementon roads, alongside lane shifts on Blackwood-Clementon Road. On July 19, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Erial Road will be fully closed between Branch Avenue and Blackwood-Clementon Road, with lane shifts on Blackwood-Clementon Road.
“This intersection is heavily traveled and although this work may disrupt the flow of traffic for a bit the project will be a worthwhile investment for our community," said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. "This intersection is in desperate need of reconstruction, so my promise to the residents is that when work is finished the area will be unrecognizable from its current state."
Dyer also advised motorists to allow extra time for travel and find alternate routes during the construction period. "If you are traveling through the area, remember to slow down and watch for road work crew members and debris," he added.
The Camden County Department of Public Works maintains over 1,200 miles of county roadway, along with 50 bridges and several dams. Their responsibilities include highway construction projects and road maintenance such as pothole repairs, street sweeping, grass cutting, and storm drainage upkeep. The department operates out of Lindenwold with personnel available around the clock.
