Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) issued a statement regarding the final StayNJ Task Force report on May 31, 2024.

"It's disappointing the Task Force failed to address one of its core missions, which is how to fund StayNJ. Now more than ever, it’s clear that Trenton Democrats have no plan on how to fund the property tax relief program they promised our residents," said Bucco.

Bucco emphasized that without significant reductions in wasteful spending, the $1.2 billion annual program remains unaffordable. "The only other alternative they have is to make further cuts to the programs that serve our most vulnerable populations or raise taxes," he added. "Unfortunately, as of now, property tax relief in the form of StayNJ is simply a fantasy and it’s quite possible this issue could lead to a long budget battle in June."
