The establishment of the Camden County Air Quality Committee has been announced in response to the 2024 State of the Air Report. The committee aims to address the issue of air quality in the region by collaborating with various stakeholders to reduce levels of contaminants and improve public health.

Camden County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash highlighted the importance of partnership in addressing air quality issues: "There are a lot of factors that contribute to poor air quality... will require working closely with our regional partners."

The American Lung Association's 2024 State of the Air report revealed improvements in Camden County's air quality, with a shift from a D to a C for ground-level ozone. However, concerns remain regarding fine particulate pollution, which has dropped from an A to a B. Michael Seilback of the American Lung Association emphasized the need for actions to improve air quality, such as electrification and reducing pollution from transportation and power sectors.

Camden County Commissioner Jonathan Young stressed the significance of enhancing air quality to protect the community's health: "Improving and enhancing our air quality is paramount to protect and strengthen the health and welfare of our community."

Assemblyman Bill Moen expressed commitment to finding solutions through the committee: "This is a group of leaders and stakeholders who are committed to working together to find solutions that will help to improve... our air quality."

The committee's focus areas include fleet electrification, solid waste operations, regional engagement, green space, indoor air quality, and finance mechanisms. Peg Hanna of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection emphasized the collaborative approach needed for emissions reduction.

Doug O'Malley from Environment New Jersey highlighted the impact of poor air quality on residents and the importance of electrifying vehicles. The committee's efforts were praised by Renee Pollard of Tri-County Sustainability Environmental Justice for their potential to improve health outcomes.

The committee's dedication to improving environmental health was underscored by Ben Saracco of Camden for Clean Air, who looks forward to making a positive impact on air quality and environmental well-being in the community.

Sean Greene of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission expressed support for the committee's efforts to enhance air quality in Camden County and beyond. Dr. Elizabeth Cerceo from Cooper Medical School emphasized the committee's commitment to improving community health and tackling air pollution-related health issues.

The Camden County Air Quality Committee's collaborative approach and commitment to addressing air quality issues are seen as crucial steps towards improving the well-being of residents and visitors in the region.
