In a recent legislative update, the 9th District Legislative Delegation expressed their firm stance against common interest community legislation that has caused concern among residents living in age-restricted communities.
The Delegation emphasized that seniors value their autonomy in running their communities, stating, "Seniors don’t want or need state bureaucrats telling them how to run their communities." They further added, "Trenton has more important things to focus on than disrupting the lives of seniors who cherish the autonomy to run their age-restricted communities the right way, not the Trenton way."
The update highlighted the reintroduction of a specific common interest community legislation in the current legislative session. The Assembly version of the bill, known as A-2271, aims to address the sale of age-restricted units in 55+ communities. This legislation has sparked significant opposition, with the Delegation submitting petitions with over 4,000 signatures against it.
The Delegation ensured that the Legislative Majority Party Leadership and Governor Murphy are aware of the intense opposition to the legislation among residents of senior communities in the legislative district. They concluded the update by thanking the constituents for the opportunity to communicate and provide insight on the ongoing legislative developments.
Senator Carmen F. Amato, Jr., Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf, and Assemblyman Greg E. Myhre signed off the update with gratitude, stating, "Again, thank you for the opportunity to provide this legislative update as your 9th District Legislative Delegation and open a line of communication with you."
