TRENTON, N.J. – State legislators are rallying behind the preservation efforts of North Caldwell by proposing legislation that would allocate $500,000 towards the restoration of the historic Walker family home at Walker’s Park.
Sen. Kristin Corrado (R-Passaic) expressed the significance of the project by stating, "Walker’s Park is a landmark of the North Caldwell community where many have shared long-lasting memories. The Walkers opened their doors to all of us and this investment to restore the historic family home is returning that dedication so friends and family can continue enjoying the park for decades to come."
Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips (R-Bergen) emphasized the cultural importance of Walker’s Park, saying, "Walker’s Park is a piece of Americana. The treasured pastimes enjoyed here are embedded in the community’s culture. It has also brought joy to an entirely new generation, which we know fulfills the wishes of the Walker family. With this investment, the borough can move forward with its plan to restore the home."
Assemblyman Al Barlas (R-Essex) highlighted the historical significance of the property, stating, "What is now Walker’s Park, the pond and family home represent an important piece of the community’s history. We know how much the property means to the people who have cherished ice skating or tree lightings here with their families. Restoring the home is the next step in preserving the property and it deserves support from the state. The home holds a lot of potential and we would like to see it restored for the community to enjoy."
The proposed legislation aims to provide state aid of $500,000 from the property tax relief fund to assist North Caldwell in the restoration of the Walker family home, a move that could help preserve the historical and cultural legacy of the community.
