Senator Joe Pennacchio has spoken out on the recent findings that show New Jersey as the state with the highest outbound migration for the sixth consecutive year. Pennacchio attributes this trend to what he perceives as excessive spending and increasing taxes under the Murphy administration. According to Pennacchio, the administration's actions have led to a situation where people are being priced out of the state.

Pennacchio highlighted the impact of these policies, stating, "New Jersey’s tax, spend, and over-regulating policies have forced grandparents to leave their grandchildren, split apart families, and permanently separated communities." He emphasized the need for public policy that encourages people to stay in the state rather than leave.

The data from United Van Lines’ 47th annual National Movers Study supports Pennacchio's concerns, showing that in 2023, nearly 65% of moves in New Jersey were outbound, the highest rate among all states. Retirement was cited as a reason for leaving by 27% of those who moved out.

The lawmaker called for a shift towards more sensible solutions to make New Jersey a more attractive place to live and work. Pennacchio urged a departure from what he described as extremist policies, advocating for a focus on creating an environment that is favorable for families and businesses to thrive within the state.
