"Today, YWCA Northern New Jersey (YWCANNJ) recognizes the beginning of Black History Month by reflecting on the triumphs and continued challenges that face the Black community. 2022 saw one of the sharpest rises in hate crimes in cities across the country and sustained attacks against teaching the realities of Black history in schools—a distressing trend after years of civil rights progress and increased representation of people of color in positions of influence. Fundamentally, YWCANNJ’s work focuses on continuing to dismantle gender and racial barriers in all forms and at all levels of society. We stand committed to working with community partners to ensure justice for all."
In this spirit, starting today through February 8, YWCANNJ will host Unite Against Hate: The State of Bias Crimes in NJ, a series of conversations on the increase in bias incidents in New Jersey against marginalized communities. The series will culminate with an in-person town hall at Caldwell University on the impact of bias crimes featuring New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, esteemed public health expert Dr. Chris T. Pernell, and community activist and mom Monique Joseph.
We invite you to commemorate Black History Month by joining us for this important series of conversations, starting tonight at 7 p.m on Facebook at YWCA Northern New Jersey | Hackensack NJ | Facebook
