"Today, YWCA Northern New Jersey (YWCANNJ) honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and takes a moment to recognize the dream he sought and the work we can do to achieve it. Advancing social justice causes and removing barriers for historically marginalized communities, all while protecting and expanding our democracy, are our motivating values. We believe in the importance of educating ourselves, our loved ones, and the community on the realities of misogyny and racism and how to abolish them. Through allyship and intention, a world where we can recognize and embrace the differences in each other and allow others to be visible is possible.

As Dr. King once said, “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” YWCANNJ provides guidance on how to have these sometimes difficult conversations and resources for those interested in raising awareness, increasing support, and influencing policy. At the core of our work at YWCANNJ, we commit efforts to create a safer and healthier community, all while dismantling institutions that hinder the advancement of women, especially women of color. Today, we must recommit ourselves to honoring Dr. King’s words and continue to bend the arc of history toward justice."
