For victims of sexual violence, the pandemic continues to present a host of challenges. Did you know that every 68 seconds, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted? Young women ages 16 to 19 are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted, and female college students ages 18 to 24 are three times more likely. Right here in New Jersey, nearly 40% of women—over 1.3 million—have reported experiencing sexual assault during their lifetime. We want all survivors to know that no matter who they are, where they are from, or what happened to them, we believe them, and that it is not their fault.
YWCA Northern New Jersey’s healing
SPACE, Bergen County’s only sexual violence resource center, is critical to supporting survivors. We fight sexual violence with deeply-rooted and sustained efforts to change harmful attitudes, improve access to opportunities and services, and foster healthy and mutually respectful relationships.
With your help, we can continue to make a real difference in the lives of survivors struggling to overcome the hurt and shame of sexual violence.
