The Union County Housing Choice Voucher Program opened its waiting list for applications on June 1 at 9 a.m., with an initial plan to accept 500 applications. The program received the full allotment of applications by 9:08 a.m., at which point the online portal stopped allowing new applicants. However, individuals who were in the process of submitting their applications at that time were permitted to complete them, resulting in a waiting list that is now larger than originally anticipated.
Officials said that submitted applications cannot be changed. Applicants who need to update their mailing address should notify the program administrator, Development Directions, LLC, in writing at 1600 St. Georges Ave., Rahway, NJ 07065.
The waiting list will be accessed as vouchers become available. There is no estimated timeline for how long it may take for applicants to be contacted; it could range from several months to several years.
The Union County Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance through federal funding and operates on a first-come, first-served basis when opening its waiting lists.
