Senator Carmen Amato, Jr., Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, and Assemblyman Gregory Myhre have expressed their backing for H.R. 9997, a bill introduced by Congressman Chris Smith. This legislation aims to name a new Veterans’ Affairs outpatient clinic in Toms River after Second Lieutenant Leonard G. “Bud” Lomell, Jr. The New Jersey Delegation has sent a letter of support to Denis Richard McDonough, Secretary of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

“The new clinic is centrally located in Ocean County, New Jersey, which is home to the highest number of veterans in the state,” stated the Delegation. “Congressman Smith’s legislation details the incredible achievements of Second Lieutenant Leonard G. ‘Bud’ Lomell, Jr., who was a long-time resident of Toms River, served valiantly during World War II, and was a model citizen.”

The full text of the letter emphasizes their collective support:

“This is a LETTER OF SUPPORT for naming the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Toms River, New Jersey, as the Leonard G. ‘Bud’ Lomell, Jr. VA Clinic,” it begins.

The letter continues to highlight that Congressman Smith’s proposal outlines Lomell’s remarkable contributions and his ties to Toms River as justification for naming the facility after him.

“It is fitting and appropriate that the clinic be named in honor of this local hero,” concludes the Delegation’s correspondence.

They thanked Secretary McDonough for considering their support regarding this matter.
