The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee has approved a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senator Declan O’Scanlon, which permits law enforcement officers to carry epinephrine. The bill aims to equip police officers with life-saving medication for emergencies.

“Police officers are often the first to arrive on the scene, and in an emergency where every second counts, having access to life saving medicine like epinephrine can make all the difference,” stated Sen. O’Scanlon. He emphasized that this legislation is a "commonsense bill" designed to ensure officers are trained and ready to assist individuals experiencing anaphylaxis.

The proposed legislation, known as S-3257, would allow police officers to complete training on administering epinephrine and require them to carry at least one dose of the medication in their vehicles or medical kits.

Senator O’Scanlon further remarked, “Allowing police officers to carry epi-pens increases the chance of saving lives and ensures they can provide critical care when it is needed most.”
